Midfielder Will Hayhurst joins the Celts for the upcoming campaign having played over sixty games in the Football League during his short career so far.
Hayhurst (pictured) started his career at Preston North End, clocking up over 40 appearances for the side as they went on to be promoted to the Championship.
Time on loan at York City - then in League Two - was followed by a move to Notts County before an injury saw him drop out of the Football League.
A spell away from the game was followed with a return to football with Warrington Town in January, where he impressed on their run to the play-offs last season.
Lakeland has followed Will’s progress over the last few years, telling the club`s website: “Will is a player that I have known a lot about since his promising start with Preston. He has had a few injury setbacks over the last couple of years but has rediscovered his love of the game and he is a player that I am looking forward to working with’
“He will offer the team a lot. He is only 24 but has a lot of experience especially in the football league. He is looking forward to the way we work and play football at Farsley Celtic and he has completely bought into what we want to do to develop as a football club. He is keen to kick on in his football career and hopefully, he can do that with us.
“He offers different options on both wings and he can put in a great ball. He will be an exciting player for the supporters to watch with some aggressive pace on the wing and he certainly chips in with his fair share of assists and goals. He is very hungry and determined to do well and I am delighted to have him on board.”
Defender Jack Higgins has also signed for Farsley from Warrington and brings a wealth of experience to the football Club.
Central defender Higgins, 26, who was in the Evo-Stik Premier Division team of the year for last season, lists York, Southport, Stalybridge Celtic, Ashton United and Clitheroe amongst his former clubs.
As soon as he spoke with Lakeland he could not wait to sign for the Celts: “Adam got in touch with me and I agreed to meet up with him to see what he had to say. He impressed me immediately with the fact that he knew pretty much everything about my career, which I wasn’t expecting. It is clear that he had done his homework on the type of player that I am, and the knowledge that he had was fantastic.
“He told me that he wanted to do all he could to build the team for next season around pretty much the same squad that got Farsley so close last season; and that the club wanted to make a couple of additions. You then start seeing on twitter and social media that loads of the players have agreed to stay and that immediately gives you confidence in what he is trying to do.
“I have played against Farsley a few times in the past, and I don’t know whether it’s a good thing to say or not, but I actually got the opening goal against the club when I played for Southport a few years ago at Throstle Nest. I started out in football as a youth player at Rushden and Diamonds, and at the time Farsley was also in the Conference. I really believe with the set up at the club that we can push ourselves to get the club as high up the non-league ladder as possible and I am delighted to have signed”. |
