The
21-year-old quickly become a fans` favourite during his time at Top Field.
However, an offer to join ambitious Northern Premier League Premier Division
side South Shields proved just too good to turn down.
The
financial package and the opportunity of full-time football were things Hitchin
were unable to compete with as a club.
The
tricky, goalscoring wide player joined Hitchin in the summer of 2020 from
Southern Division One Central side Welwyn Garden City.
He
had joined the Citizens from Hitchin`s Southern Premier Central rivals
Biggleswade Town in the summer of 2019.
Formerly
on Luton Town’s books, where he spent three seasons in their academy, he was a
regular match-winner and also had spells with Hoddesdon Town and Langford.
South
Shields manager Graham Fenton, the former Aston Villa and Leicester City
forward, told https://southshieldsfc.co.uk: “We’re really happy that Callum has
agreed to join the club.
“From
what we have seen and heard about him Callum is a natural goalscorer, hence his
impressive figures so far this season with Hitchin Town.
“He
will provide us with more competition at the top end of the pitch, which can
only be healthy for the squad.
“We’re
looking for everyone in those positions to keep pushing each other to higher
standards, and an addition like this is sure to help strengthen that.
“We
wish Callum all the best and are looking forward to working with him”.
