The
now 68-year-old Taylor’s illustrious career in football spans over 50 years.
In
1976 he earned his first cap for England, being the last Third Division player
to play for his country whilst at Crystal Palace. He went on to play First Division
football with Tottenham for four years.
Taylor
ended his playing career as a player-manager at Dartford over a four-year spell
and then spent one year at Enfield.
After
two years as assistant manager at Watford, Taylor left to manage his first
Football League club, Southend United, in 1993.
In
2000, Taylor was at the helm of Premier League club Leicester City and during
this period he became England’s caretaker manager for one game against Italy,
where he famously named David Beckham as captain.
Taylor
enjoyed his longest spell with one club at Hull City and led them to back-to-back
promotions from the Football League Two and One in the 2003/04 and 2004/05
seasons reaching the heights of the Championship before leaving Hull in June
2006.
The
experienced manager has seen five promotions with four different clubs
including the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion, Gillingham and Wycombe
Wanderers.
His
most recent post was at National League Dagenham & Redbridge, where he
departed in 2019.
His
first game in charge of the Wings will be on Saturday away to Oxford City.
