Casuals Bring in Gilbert

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Walton Casuals have added to their squad ahead of the Buildbase FA Trophy tie against Isthmian League North side Great Wakering Rovers.

First through the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub was midfielder John Gilbert (pictured).

The 21-year-old joins the Stags from Isthmian League North side Maldon & Tiptree, who he signed for in August.

Gilbert is well known in the Walton area as he played in the youth side at neighbouring Walton & Hersham and then worked his way through the academy at league rivals Metropolitan Police.

He went on to win the Isthmian Youth League, Surrey Under-18 County Cup and Isthmian Youth League Champion of Champions with the Met.

That earned him a trial with Premier League Southampton in May 2017, and he became a first-team regular with the Met in 2018/19.

Casuals have also extended the loan of young forward Bradley Keetch from Vanarama National League side Maidenhead United.

Keetch originally came to the club in August.
