Nelson departs having first joined the club in March 2020.

During his time at Croft Park, Nelson worked tirelessly during difficult times as the club battled through the Covid-19 pandemic.

A busy summer of recruitment provided a lot of optimism but after a series of disappointing performances over several weeks, the club can announce Nelson’s departure.

Michael Barron and Stephen Turnbull will take charge of the first team on an interim basis.

Barron has agreed to stay on and assist the club whilst it conducts a search to replace Nelson.

Club legend Turnbull returns to Croft Park having gained managerial experience at Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division side Morpeth Town.

As a player, Turnbull made 206 appearances for Spartans – famously scoring a wonderful free-kick in a 2-1 FA Cup Second Round win at Hartlepool United in December 2014.

The pair begin their interim period when Guiseley AFC visit Croft Park on Saturday
