Midfielder Luke Daly (pictured) joins the Gladiators from Vanarama National League North side Curzon Ashton.
The
25-year-old had signed for The Nash in the summer of 2021 after being released
by Matlock`s league rivals South Shields.
He
had joined Shields in January 2019 from Droylsden and made 21 competitive
appearances interrupted by Covid.
He
spent almost 10 years in Manchester United’s academy before a three-year spell
at Burnley, one of which was as a professional.
He
then signed for Droylsden and caught the eye as a stand-out player with the
Bloods.
Matlock
boss Paul Phillips told https://www.matlocktownfc.co.uk: “He’s a ballplayer similar to Danny Greenfield who went back to Gateshead last season. He’s
a quality player who’s been there and done it and has played at some top clubs.
He’ll give us something different in the midfield rather than the blood and
thunder, he can put his foot on the ball and help us retain possession more.”
Phillips
has also signed 18-year-old attacking midfielder Luke Hall.
The
latest addition began his career with SkyBet League One giants Sheffield
Wednesday where he had a number of years in the Owls academy as well as
representing England at under-15 level.
When
his contract was about to end at Hillsborough in May 2021, he had a trial at
Brentford.
Hall
joins the Gladiators from NPL Division One East outfit Sheffield FC having also
been at National League North side Guiseley AFC on a dual registration basis,
playing for the Lions in their 1-0 Emirates FA Cup First Round defeat at AFC
Wimbledon earlier this month and making his Guiseley debut at Darlington a week
earlier.
Young
goalkeeper Alfie Roberts has joined on loan from Championship side Derby
County.
Roberts
joined Derby’s academy in 2015 after previously being with the academy at
Nottingham Forest.
He
was a regular in his first season as a scholar with the Rams helping them to a
top half finish in the Under-18 Premier League North.
Phillips
added: “We really needed to sign another goalkeeper and have competition in
that position. For me, having two goalkeepers is essential especially with us
still being in the FA Trophy. As we found out with Shaun, you never know what’s
around the corner. Alfie’s come to us and done really well in training and can
push Coops (Paul Cooper) for that number one jersey. I’d like to thank Derby
County for their great help in bringing Alfie to us”.
