Born in DR Congo, Elito moved to England at a young age, rising through the Colchester United youth system.

He also made appearances for England at under-17, 18 and under-19 level.

Elito progressed through the academy at the Essex club and went on to make 24 appearances for the U's, who were then in the Championship.

Loans to Cheltenham Town then Dagenham & Redbridge followed before signing a permanent deal with the latter and becoming a first-team regular.

He would make 136 appearances for the Daggers, scoring 20 goals across a three-season period before joining Dutch second-tier side VVV-Venlo for the 2014/15 campaign.

The attacking midfielder, who can play anywhere across the middle of the park, made 28 appearances in the Eerste Divisie, scoring once, but opted to return to the UK with Newport County during the summer of 2015.

He played 43 matches for the Exiles, prior to joining Cambridge United in the summer of 2016.

He spent two seasons at the Abbey Stadium, making 66 appearances and netting 11 times.

Elito now arrives at The Hive following a successful period on trial and said that the chance to work with John Still again was a major factor.

He told https://www.barnetfc.com: "I'm happy to get a deal done, I'm enjoying training and the wonderful facilities you have got here. I'm ready to start the season.

"John Still knows me well, he had me when I was 21, he spoke to me over the phone and I was easily persuaded to come to Barnet."

Speaking on his latest signing, manager John Still said: "He's an experienced player now, I remember watching him at Colchester, I really liked him, and I was able to sign him at Dagenham. He then went on to play abroad and then on to Newport.

"He did really, really well at Newport and moved to Cambridge. Changes of management at Cambridge has meant Medy has become available.

"I'm actually delighted to get him here because we were in with a few that were trying to take him, in League Two and in this league. We waited with five other sides, he came to talk, and we've managed to get it done.

"He can play wide right, wide left or as a number 10 and it's a no-brainer because he is a good player".
