Pitching
In Northern Premier League Premier Division strugglers Grantham Town have
signed experienced striker Ricky Miller from Vanarama National League side
Dover Athletic.
The
32-year-old returned to Crabble last summer, having scored 68 goals in 101
appearances during his first spell between 2015 and 2017.
But,
with injury restricting his involvement, he failed to find the net in 10
appearances for the struggling Whites this season.
He
re-signed for Dover from rivals Aldershot Town, where he had been since January
2021.
He
spent his youth career in both League One side Charlton Athletic’s and local
rivals Woking’s youth systems, before successful spells within non-League
football with the likes of Stamford AFC, Corby Town, Hitchin Town and Aylesbury
FC that saw the forward earn moves into the Football League with the likes of
Luton Town, Peterborough United, Mansfield Town and Port Vale.
But
it was in the National League systems where he played his best football,
scoring 28 goals in 46 games for National League North side Boston United in
2013/14, before going onto to score 22 goals in 54 games in the National League
with Dover Athletic in 2015/16.
However,
it was the season after in 2016/17 that saw his best return of goals in
professional football, scoring 45 goals in 46 games for Dover as they narrowly
missed out on a play-off position, with the forward finishing the season as top
scorer in the National League, 15 goals clear of second-placed Christian
Doidge.
Having
had a year out from football, he decided to make his comeback with Aldershot.
