Carney first joined
Broadbridge Heath at the age of 15 playing in the club`s under-16 team in the Mid-Sussex
Sunday Youth League, the following year the same team won the SCFL Under-18
West Division and twelve months later they became champions of the Southern
Youth League.
Carney's
performances at youth level were soon noticed by then-first-team manager Sam
Chapman, who drafted the young midfield player into his starting XI and on his
senior debut he scored 4 goals and went on to become a regular and helped the
team to finish in fifth place, narrowly missing out on promotion.
The following season,
Carney signed for Pease Pottage Village for a short while before moving to
Horsham in November 2001.
He scored twice on
his debut for the Hornets and went on to make more than 300 appearances,
helping them to promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division and an FA Cup
Second Round tie with Swansea City before he left to join Three Bridges in
December 2009.
Under his captaincy,
Bridges won the Sussex County League title and promotion to the Isthmian League
for the first time in their history.
Painter told his
club`s website: "We're delighted to have Lee back where it all started and
let's hope he has an enjoyable and injury-free season". |
