The Bath-born 35-year-old came through Bristol City’s academy before making his senior bow for Newport County where he made 56 League appearances.

He joined Championship side Cardiff City in January 2007 and went on to gain more League experience with loan spells at Darlington and Oxford United before returning to the South-West at Torquay United in the conference.

Green returned to Oxford, initially on loan, playing 38 games before turning the move a permanent one, where he made a further 17 appearances.

He spent the latter half of the 2010/11 season on loan to then-League Two side Cheltenham Town, but then joined then-National League outfit Mansfield Town in July 2011.

He made 87 appearances for the Stags, scoring 54 goals - a record that earned a return to the Championship with Birmingham City before injury cut his spell in the Midlands short.

He returned to action back at Mansfield, where he was almost ever-present for two seasons.

He has since had spells at Lincoln City with whom he won the EFL Trophy, Salford City and Grimsby Town, before joining Linfield in the Irish league in August 2021.

Gloucester boss Lee Mansell told https://www.gloucestercityafc.com: “We are bringing Matt in to give us some more experience up top and to score goals. He’s done that all his career and he’ll do that for us in this league.

“Matt has experience playing in the Championship and he’ll be a valuable asset to this football club”.
