Weare, now 45, started his playing days with East Ham United before being signed by QPR in 1999.

He went on to make a handful of first-team appearances for the Rs before being signed by his former manager Gerry Francis for Bristol Rovers in the summer of 2001/

He played 10 times for the Gas but trouble with his back saw his full-time career come to an end at the age of 25.

He did play non-League football for East Thurrock United but has concentrated on coaching in more recent years, both as a personal trainer and with the likes of Ilford FC.

Clapton’s chief executive Vincent McBean told https://claptonfc.com: “This is a fantastic appointment for Clapton. Ross brings a high level of professionalism, knowledge of football and a proven track record in the game.”

Weare said: “I would like to thank Clapton FC for the opportunity to manage such a historic club. It’s a privilege to be joining one of the oldest teams in non-League football.

“I am honoured and looking forward to the challenge ahead and can’t wait to get started.

“I will work hard to bring the good times back to the club with a team that plays exciting, attacking football. A team that plays with passion, pride and the will to work hard for each other on and off the pitch.

“I want the club, fans and authorities to support, get behind the team and let’s do something special together.

“I look forward to a long and successful time at the club”.
