King
replaces Guy Hadland, who stepped down at the end of the season after taking
over in December 2018.
A
skilful wide midfielder as a player, he started his career as a schoolboy with
Aston Villa, before joining the Stoke City youth set up and earning his first
contract.
He
went on loan to VS Rugby late in 1993 but was released by Stoke after the
arrival of new manager Lou Macari.
Despite
the offer of short contracts from League sides, including Northampton Town, he
joined Rushden & Diamonds in November 1994.
Despite
being transfer-listed at the start of the following season, he stayed for
another two seasons, scoring in his final game in May 1997 after making 75
appearances.
He
was released and joined Nuneaton Borough in June 1997, before joining Telford
United later in the season.
He
joined Aylesbury United in the summer of 1998 and spent a season and a half
with the Ducks, before the club entered administration, and he joined Stevenage
Borough.
He
also played for Chesham United, Brackley Town, Banbury United and Kettering
Town before moving to Australia.
After
several years `down under`, playing and coaching, he returned to the UK around
2010, and worked at Birmingham City for four seasons as a youth coach until the
2015/16 season.
He
then moved on to the coaching staff at Leamington and from there he moved on to
manage Worcester City prior to the 2016/17 season. However, he left the role
for personal reasons three months later.
He
became joint manager at home-town club Daventry Town alongside Arron Parkinson
for the 2017/18 season but left prior to the 2018/19 season when he spent time
as manager of Redditch United as well as coaching youngsters at Northampton
Town.
He
then teamed up with Brendan Kelly as his assistant as Bromsgrove Sporting but
left in October 2021 when Kelly was replaced.
King
arrives at the UK Flooring Direct Stadium with a superb reputation for coaching
player and having a strong network for unearthing young talent.
The
new manager holds a UEFA A Licence and a LMA Diploma in Football Management.
Barwell
chairman Dave Laing told his club’s website: “We were impressed with his
application and delighted he will be the manager. With our new pitch we have a
great foundation to become a club where young players can come and develop
themselves. These are exciting times for Barwell FC”. |
