The Shrimpers have signed Dan Mooney (pictured) and Cavaghn Miley.

Mooney is a 22-year-old forward who won league rivals Altrincham’s players` and young player of the year award for 2021/22.

He had joined Alty from SkyBet League One side Fleetwood Town in early February 2020 for an undisclosed fee.

He departed Highbury after five years at the club after joining as a first-year scholar back in 2015.

He has been on loan to Ashton United and Chester FC, where he made 35 appearances, scoring 6 goals.

The attacker went on to feature twice in League One for the Cod Army.

He is a former Wales under-21 international.

Southend’s head coach Kevin Maher told https://www.southendunited.co.uk: "Dan has obvious qualities.

"A left footed player gives us balance and he's a player that will always create and score chances. I think he’s a great signing for now and for the future for us.

"It's an area we wanted to work on with goals and assists. To be a part of a team that will improve is big, he’s at a great age and what we have in the building already is important for him as he’ll only improve himself, but he’ll improve the team and others around him."

Miley is a 27-year-old midfielder who joins from another National League rival, Eastleigh.

He had joined the Spitfires in the summer of 2017 from Jersey side St Pauls.

He was recommended to the Spitfires by former Aston Villa boss Brian Little through his work and his contacts in Jersey and went on to make over 175 appearances for Hampshire club.

Maher added: "Obviously we needed to bring in a few bodies in midfield. He’s at a good age and has played 200 games at this level.

"He’ll always put his foot in and work hard and we believe he’ll be a fantastic fit for us.

"He’s tidy on the ball, very competitive and strong, left footed as well like Dan so he gives us the balance. The age he’s at, he’s in his prime which is huge so it’s a signing we’re delighted to have on board".
