Aaron Roberts joins from Premier League new boys AFC Bournemouth after featuring for the Magpies in 13 games on loan last season.

Roberts had been with the Cherries since he was 12 years old.

The 19-year-old is ostensibly a centre-back by trade. However, he is a versatile player, able to play across the back four as well as pushing up into a midfield role.

He progressed into Bournemouth’s under-21s but failed to break into Scott Parker’s first-team plans.

Stokoe told his club’s website: “Aaron joining gives us a young hungry player who is very versatile, he can play in three or four positions which gives us good options. We think he has a lot of talent from the games he played on loan last season and will be looking to progress back up the ladder”.
