Howard, who will re-unite with manager Phil Parkinson having previously worked under him at Bolton Wanderers, arrives after being named SkyBet League Two side Carlisle United’s player of the season for 2021/22.

The 35-year-old came through the ranks at Arsenal before joining Cardiff City, and later had spells in Scotland with St Mirren and Aberdeen.

He returned to England when signing for Blackpool, before making over 100 appearances for Sheffield United between 2012 and 2016.

Whilst at Bramall Lane, he was part of the side that reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 2013/14 and both the League Cup semi-finals and the League One play-offs in 2014/15.

Howard joined Bolton in 2016 and has also featured for Salford City and Scunthorpe United in recent seasons.
