The 34-year-old joins Cables from League of Ireland Premier Division side Derry City.

He signed for Derry from Scunthorpe United at the end of the 2019/20 English season after a spell on loan at Stockport County.

Hammill began his career at Liverpool but didn't make a senior appearance for the Reds, although he had loan spells with Dunfermline Athletic, Southampton, Blackpool and Barnsley.

He also had spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield Town and played a key role in Barnsley's promotion to the Championship in 2016, being named man of the match in their play-off final victory over Millwall.

After leaving Barnsley in 2018, he spent a year at Scottish club St Mirren and then signed for Scunthorpe in January 2019.

Capped 7 times at under-19 level, his lone England under-21 cap came during his first spell at Barnsley in 2011.

Cables have also signed Adam Hammill’s young nephew, James.

Also a winger or a forward, James arrives from Prescot’s North West Counties League neighours Litherland REMYCA.
