The
20-year-old initially joined Hampton in September 2021 from National League outfit
Wealdstone on a month’s loan, and subsequently went on to make his first
appearance in senior football against Ebbsfleet United, putting in a composed
performance.
Born
and raised in Norwich, he joined the Canaries aged 7, going on to captain their
under-18 side, where he made 48 appearances, scoring 5 times.
Having
also made 23 appearances in the under-23 side, he eventually moved on to
Wealdstone in the summer of 2021.
Nominally
a deep-lying midfielder, he is at his best screening the defence, but is more
than capable of driving the team up the pitch as well.
In
late October, he was recalled to Wealdstone, to the disappointment of Hampton
fans, but they were delighted when the opportunity arose to get him back in
early December 2021 - on loan at first - and then permanently in February 2022
after cancelling his contract with Wealdstone.
Leiston’s
joint boss Darren Eadie told his club’s website: “I’ve been tracking Zach for a
couple of years following his departure from Norwich City. We are delighted to
bring him to Leiston. He’s only 20 and continuing to develop and has a
willingness to learn, but already has plenty of higher league experience at
Wealdstone in the National League. He will bring really quality, ability and a
fantastic attitude to our squad".
