A local lad hailing from Leigh, Fitzmartin played as a junior for Atherton Town before spending eight years within the Bolton academy set-up, making one senior appearance for the Whites in 2019 and signing professional terms in 2021.

The 19-year-old winger enjoyed a loan spell with Colls` league rivals Stalybridge Celtic last season, making 12 appearances with one goal and multiple assists, before departing Bolton this summer.

Colls manager Brad Cooke told http://athertoncollieries.co.uk: “Jay is a very good footballer, and I am absolutely delighted that he has agreed to sign for us. He is someone I have admired for a while, and I tried to sign him a couple of times on loan from Bolton.

“Fitz has huge potential and I have no doubt he will do very well in the game. He suits our style of play - he is technical and has lighting pace. After dropping out of professional football for the first time, I know he is determined to have a really positive season!

“I can’t wait to see what Jay can do - it is an exciting time for the Collieries to sign a player of his calibre”.
