Smith had signed for Rylands in the summer of 2021 from another NPL Premier Division side Atherton Collieries, who he signed for in July 2020, and helped them to win promotion from the NPL Division One West.

A familiar face for Colls fans, the imposing defender returned to the Black & Whites following an eye-catching stint with Radcliffe, having previously made a handful of appearances for the Colls on loan from Ashton United in 2017.

He had been with the Boro since 2017 and made 168 appearances, netting 19 goals across two spells.

Apart from Ashton United and Radcliffe, he has also featured for FC United of Manchester, Stockport Sports and Salford City.
