Sills
moves across from league rivals Hamworthy United, where he guided the side into
the Southern League as Wessex League Premier Division champions at the end of
this season.
The
now 43-year-old was appointed as the Hammers` boss in October 2019 and was
handed the Magpies post after the club received a number of high-quality
applications.
Born
in Romsey, Sills began his playing career with Millwall but left the Lions to
go to university and began a long and successful spell in non-League football
with Camberley Town and then Basingstoke Town.
But
it was after joining Aldershot Town from Kingstonian in the summer of 2002 that
he really took off, scoring 43 goals in the Conference for the Shots in 96 appearances,
earning an England C cap against Belgium’s under-23s in February 2003.
He
went on to play for Oxford United, Hereford United, Torquay United, Stevenage,
Aldershot and Basingstoke again, Bashley, Gosport Borough and Weymouth before
finishing his playing days with Blackfield & Langley – then in the Southern
League.
Sills
will be joined by Chris Senior as assistant manager, Michael Legg as coach and
Ben Sullivan as goalkeeper coach at New Cuthbury.
Sills
told his club’s website: “I’m absolutely delighted to be appointed as manager
of Wimborne Town FC. To be torn away from such a strong base that we’d built at
Hamworthy United was always going to take something special and the potential,
the set up and brilliant fan base at Wimborne, especially after talking to the
Board, was just too much to resist. Time now for myself, Chris, Sully and Tank
to get down to business, work hard and get this talented squad reaching the
heights they should be capable of”. |
