Rooney
joins the Saints from Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central side
Stratford Town, who he signed for in August.
The
34-year-old had joined National League side Solihull Moors in March 2020 from
League Two side Salford City on a contract until May 2022 for an undisclosed
fee.
He
gained promotion from the National League via the Promotion Final with the
Ammies in 2018/19, scoring 21 goals in the process.
He
joined Salford on the back of a highly successful spell with Aberdeen in the
Scottish Premiership where he scored 88 goals in 197 appearances, won the
League Cup, scored goals in Europe and picked up a `golden boot`.
Solihull
supporters will also know the forward from his time at Birmingham City for whom
he spent one playing season with and scored his first European goal against NK
Maribor.
However,
it was at Stoke City where his career began, and he became the club’s youngest
ever hat-trick scorer on the last day of the 2005/06 season against Brighton.
He
has also enjoyed spells at Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Oldham Athletic as
well as being on loan with the likes of Yeovil Town, Chesterfield, Bury and
Swindon Town.
Manager
Johnson told https://www.brackleytownfc.com:
"I am delighted to get Adam over the line. He is someone who was of real
importance to get in. I’ve always liked Adam as a player, he gave me a hard time
many years ago when I played against him and have seen him play against my
teams in recent years.
“He
is someone who can hold it up to bring others into play, will win his headers,
work hard for the team and most importantly knows where the goal is. His career
and the clubs he’s been at speaks for itself."
Rooney
follows Johnson’s first signing, the equally experienced midfielder Martin
Woods (pictured).
The
36-year-old moves to St James`s Park from National League side FC Halifax Town,
where he had been since August 2020.
He
started his career at Leeds United coming through their academy and he was
capped by Scotland Youth making appearances at under-17, 19 and under-21
levels.
He
made one substitute appearance, and he had a loan spell with Hartlepool United
whilst at Elland Road.
He
gained Premier League experience joining Sunderland, making 7 appearances,
before having spells with Rotherham United, Doncaster Rovers and Barnsley.
He
moved back north of the border, joining Ross County for two spells with a
couple of months at Shrewsbury Town in between.
He
was part of the Partick Thistle side which was relegated through the play-offs
at the end of the 2017/18 season before joining Dundee in November 2018 until
the end of the season.
Johnson
added: "I am really pleased to get this signing over the line as Martin
will bring a wealth of experience on and off the pitch. After playing over 70
games at Halifax over the last two seasons in the league above, He has a lot to
offer and will play a pivotal role in our promotion push". |
