The
33-year-old had re-joined Gosport from Vanarama National League South
neighbours Havant & Waterlooville in June 2019.
Born
in Dunfermline Scotland, he became a scholar with Southampton in 2007 and was
capped twice at under-19 level by Scotland.
He
made his first-team debut as a sub against Norwich City at St Mary’s in September
2008 - the first of 22 first team appearances.
He
made 27 appearances for Southend United with 8 goals and then had 31 games for
Burton Albion, scoring 7 times, before signing for Aldershot Town in 2013.
It
was in 2014 that he joined Gosport from Aldershot and struck up a tremendous
goalscoring partnership with Justin Bennett, with Paterson scoring 25 goals and
Bennett 33.
He
had a loan spell with Havant & Waterlooville whilst with The Shots and his
second came in 2015 when he moved to Westleigh Park on a more permanent basis,
and he netted 34 goals in 75 games before departing in 2017 following promotion
to the National League South.
After
spells at Oxford City and Welling United, he returned to the Hawks in January
2019 hoping to score the goals which could keep them in the National League,
which he was unable to do.
He
made 72 appearances for Gosport, scoring 26 goals.
