Hessenthaler joined the Reds in the September of 2020 and has gone on to make 113 appearances, scoring 6 goals. He played 35 games for Grimsby Town in the 2019/20 season, scoring once and assisting three times. Having come through the youth ranks at Gillingham, Hessenthaler had loan spells at Lewes and Tamworth before becoming a regular at the Priestfield Stadium. He played over 180 games for the Gills before he made the switch to Grimsby in July 2018. He played 85 times for Grimsby before being released in the summer of 2020. Since joining Crawley, Hessenthaler became a key player from the off, and was the only player in the 2020/21 to play in all 46 league games for the club.
