Donafee joined the Rams in October 2018 as assistant coach before taking charge after Chris Willock's departure before the start of the 2021/22 season.
During his tenure, he guided Ramsbottom to a 15th-place finish last season, but with the side currently sitting at the bottom of the table, chairman Harry Williams felt as if he had no choice but to make a decision.
"Lee has been part of the set-up here at Ramsbottom for five years, during which time he has also become a firm friend,” Williams told https://www.ramsbottomutd.com: "We’ve given him as much time as we could in the hope that he could turn around the poor results, but with the season end fast approaching, we felt that we had no other option than to look elsewhere, in the hope that a new appointment could bring about a change of fortune.
"Lee has been a model pro during his time with us, and we are genuinely sorry to have to part ways, and we sincerely wish him well for the future. He will always be welcomed back at Ramsbottom."
Swiftly moving into the vacant managerial chair at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium, is former FC United of Manchester assistant manager David Chadwick (pictured).
Regarded by many at the breakaway club as a legend, the no-nonsense defender spent most of his playing career at the club since their formation in 2006.
He made 211 appearances in the red shirt, notching 24 goals.
Upon retiring from playing, the 45-year-old moved into the club’s coaching set-up and remained there until the beginning of this season.
He brings a wealth of experience and contacts to Ramsbottom as he has spent recent months scouting.
Appreciating the current situation at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium, he has accepted the challenge to prevent the Rams from returning to the North West Counties League, although accepting that should that not prove to be achievable, he has joined the club with a long-term vision.
The chairman Harry Williams continued: “We wish David all the best. He came over very well in the interview, and I expect his no-nonsense attitude to gel well with the players and everyone here at Ramsbottom.
“He knows he has a difficult short-term task ahead of him but has the belief that he can take the club forward in a positive and successful manner”.
