Stowmarket Town defender Jon Carver has joined Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division rivals Thetford Town on a short-term loan deal.

The 22-year-old re-joined Stow two years ago and won a Thurlow Nunn League First Division title medal in 2016/17.

The defender has made 78 appearances for the Old Gold & Blacks - the most of any player in the current Stow squad - but was a late substitute in Stow's 2-1 opening weekend win against Thetford last Saturday.

Stow boss Rick Andrews explained the loan move was made to give Carver more playing time, with a view to then returning to help his squad in the coming months.

He told www.stowmarkettownfc.co.uk: "We had a chat with Jon and said he needs to go and play 90 minutes a game and build his confidence up.

"We've got him on contract, if we didn't want him we would never have offered him a contract. We believe in him.

"He has lost a little bit of confidence, which all players go through. He's a young lad and Danny White (Thetford manager) spoke to us and I said the timing couldn't be better.

"I spoke to Jon and he was all for it, which is what I expected from someone like him. He sees the benefit and he's still involved in our training. It's a short-term thing to get minutes and then come back and help the squad".
