McDonald has been at the club since 2021, as an assistant under long-serving manager Chris Swailes, who left the club last week due to personal reasons. The Fed finished sixth, and missed out on the play-offs on the final day of the season after defeat against Carlton Town. It is the second time Dunston have finished just outside the play-offs. Despite the setback, McDonald believes his side are not far off. McDonald told http://www.dunstonutsfc.co.uk: “I’m proud to be manager of Dunston. It is a great club with great history and tradition, and I will be giving everything to ensure we are successful. I’m grateful to the chairman and his committee for giving me this opportunity. “We have a great group of players, with a good chemistry and we are not far away. We played some great football last season but just fell short on the final day. We will use that as motivation for the coming season”.
