Starting his professional playing career as a 17-year-old in 1984 at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Flowers went on to make over 500 first-team appearances for eight teams winning the Premier League title in 1995 with Blackburn and the League Cup with Leicester in 2000. He also represented the England national side on 11 occasions between 1993 and 1998 and was a member of the 1996 European Championships squad and the 1998 FIFA World Cup Finals squad. Upon retiring from playing, he went straight into a career in coaching and had roles at both Manchester City and Leicester City before he was appointed assistant manager to Iain Dowie at Coventry City. He followed Dowie to Queens Park Rangers and Hull City as his assistant manager before joining Stafford Rangers in his first managerial post. Unfortunately, the move didn’t work out and he only lasted nine games before resigning in 2011. Flowers then joined Northampton Town as goalkeeper coach where he stayed for just over two years before briefly joining Kidderminster Harriers in 2014 as first-team coach. He then had a brief spell with Stuart Pearce at Nottingham Forest as goalkeeping coach and Kidderminster Harriers as one of their backroom coaching staff before joining Championship side Fulham as goalkeeping coach. In November 2017 he was appointed as Mark Yates’ assistant manager at National League side Solihull Moors and was promoted to manager when Yates left in June 2018. Flowers guided the club to a best-ever finish of second place in the National League as well as reaching the Second Round of the Emirates FA Cup but he left the Moors in January 2020 by mutual consent with the team just one point off a play-off place. Flowers made a return to football in August 2020 when he joined newly relegated Macclesfield Town but unfortunately, the club folded and were expelled from the National League just weeks later without Flowers taking charge of a competitive game. In November 2021 he took over as manager of Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central side Stratford Town and left in March 2022. Flowers told https://www.gloucestercityafc.com: “I’m very proud and pleased to be joining Gloucester City. Patrick Chambers was very candid regarding the model for next season - it’s a rough, rugged league and we want to be as competitive as possible. We’ll need to box clever in the transfer market, and bring in some players who can form a tight knit squad who the fans will warm to. The club were unlucky in the play-offs after a very good season and as part of the recruitment process I’ll naturally be speaking to last season’s squad. Finally I’d like to thank Patrick and Nicky Chambers, and I’m looking forward to meeting players and supporters.” Patrick Chambers, who has assumed the role of acting chairman at the club before officially taking over on 1st June, said: “I am delighted to confirm that Tim Flowers has agreed to become our new manager after a thorough interview process with several candidates. “As acting chairman until June 1st and the formal takeover of the club, it's the most important decision I will have taken in football to date. Tim is a winner and had an incredible career at the highest level as a player which will be a big attraction to young ambitious players and experienced ones who want to play at the highest level they can. “His record at Solihull Moors with guiding them to a runners-up position to Leyton Orient a few years ago shows he knows what it takes at the level above and that’s where we are aiming to be over the next few seasons. His connections are of the highest calibre, which will help us recruit the quality we need to be competitive. “I hope our fans can see that although going back to a part-time format, our ambition remains to build a competitive squad to challenge in the National League North. The fact that Tim has agreed to become our manager and bought into our strategy for the future speaks volumes to me about his character and desire to join us on our journey in building Gloucester City both on and off the pitch. Bring on the 2023/24 season”.
