Highly rated striker Dan Sweeney has been snapped up by player-manager Elliot Sandy ahead of the 2023/24 season. The 25-year-old (pictured) came through the Kidderminster Harriers academy and signed a professional deal at Aggborough ahead of the 2015/16 season at just 17-years-old. He enjoyed productive loan spells at Halesowen Town and Stourport Swifts, scoring 9 goals in 26 games for the latter. He left Kiddy in May 2017 and struggled with injury, before impressing and joining Vanarama National League side Solihull Moors in pre-season 2018. He had lots of loan spells away from Solihull before signing for Southern Premier Division Central club Redditch United in July 2020. He switched to then-league rivals Hednesford Town in September 2020 before re-joining Redditch in December 2020. He moved to another league rival, Bromsgrove Sporting, in June 2022 and then transferred to then-Northern Premier Division One West side Macclesfield FC in February 2023 for an undisclosed fee. Sandy told his club’s social media: “Dan is one of the most sought after talents in non-League football, I’m delighted to have him commit to us.” The Tulips also announced that Stephan Morley has committed to the club for the 2023/24 season. The vastly experienced 36-year-old Leicester-born defender re-joined Leamington in September 2019 from National League North rivals AFC Telford United. He signed for the Bucks in June 2018, having left previous club Tamworth following their relegation. He counts amongst his former clubs Kettering Town, Hinckley United, Corby Town, Brackley Town and Leamington, where he played over 200 games in his first spell – many as skipper. He took his total appearances for the Brakes to almost 300 before returning to league rivals Kettering in October 2022. In January 2023 he left the Poppies to join Hednesford. Sandy added: “Steph is another fantastic addition to our squad. He is a leader on and off the pitch with a wand of a left foot. I look forward to linking up with Steph again”.
