Elliot re-signed for Rugby in August 2021 after a brief spell with Halesowen’s new league rivals Stratford Town. A graduate of the Rugby youth team, he originally signed for the first team in July 2019 after impressing during pre-season and his energy and workrate was very impressive in the Rugby midfield and after the Covid-interrupted he left to join Stratford. After returning from his brief stint away, he went from strength to strength and signed a fourteen-month contract in March 2022 before scooping a plethora of player of the season awards. The 21-year-old had a more impressive season again in 2022/23 as he helped the team achieve promotion from the United Counties League Premier Division South, scoring 11 goals and picking up almost every player of the season trophy at the end of the campaign. Smith told his club’s website: ''Caine has stood out as one of the best young midfielders, if not the best at Step 5. ''He has had a number of admirers and we’ve beaten off some stiff competition. “It’s a big step for him, but I believe in him, he has the attributes to be very, very good''.
