The Moatmen have announced the return of Steve Hart (pictured) after the hugely popular forward agreed to return to the Moat Ground. Hart’s goals were instrumental in the promotion campaign to the Northern Premier League two seasons ago and he had similar impact at United Counties League Premier Division North side Quorn last season, also helping them to promotion to Step 4 where they will also be playing in the NPL Midland Division alongside Rovers. However, for the coming season the club are delighted that Hart has agreed a deal to return to the Moat Ground. Chairman Gary Norton told https://www.gresleyrovers.com: “The management team have been working hard since the end of the season trying to put a squad together to ensure we have an improved season this time round, and they have done really well on that so far. “That said the signing of Steve for the club is a big one, especially when you consider our lack of goals in the side last season. “If I’d been given a pound for every time a supporter asked me in recent months about trying to get Steve Hart back at the club id be a very rich man and as such, I know that our supporters will be excited with the news of his return and the prospect of seeing him in a Rovers shirt once again. “Steve has proven quality and will score goals at whatever level he plays at and it’s clear that he has a special working relationship with Carl Abbott. That special relationship was pivotal to his decision to come back to the club as was the affinity he developed with our supporters during his previous spell with us. We are delighted at Steve’s return to Gresley Rovers and look forward to adding further to the squad in the coming weeks to the quality we already have at the club.” As well as Quorn and Gresley, Hart also played under Abbott at Hinckley AFC. Rovers have also acquired the services of gifted central midfield player Riley Davoile for 2023/24 season. At 22 years of age, he is looking to take a step up in level following two fantastic seasons with UCL Premier Division South side Coventry United where he has been club captain. He is a technical midfielder who plays off both feet, and despite playing from a deep lying role, is regular contributor of goals and often the spectacular. This is a player we believe can transcend levels and Rovers are excited to work with him and see him develop. A really strong addition to the group is versatile central midfielder or central defender Bradley Maslen-Jones from West Midlands (Regional) League Division One side Gornal Athletic. A young professional player with Peterborough United and Hull City, Maslen-Jones counts Coalville Town, Rushall Olympic, Stratford Town, Evesham United and Stourbridge Town amongst his former sides. A player of real ability who can operate deep in midfield or in an advanced position off the front. Very comfortable in possession and will be a huge asset as we seek to get a foothold in this division and play a more possession-based game. Previously played for the management at Evesham United where he was outstanding and placed under contract. Meanwhile, Rovers have confirmed that young forward James Spruce will remain with the club for 2023/24. A young professional with Bristol Rovers, Spruce burst onto the non-League scene running Steve Hart close for the United Counties League `golden boot` whilst with Heather St John’s, before stepping up in levels with Sutton Coldfield Town. A long-term target, Gresley finally got their man last season, and saw Spruce contribute some critical goals at vital times. A player of real technical ability, we are excited about just how good he can become as he develops. Midfield powerhouse Lewis Belgrave will also be a Moatman once again in 2023/24. Bellgrave took some time out at the end of the last campaign to focus on his studies. However, he now returns refreshed and refocused. With a full pre-season behind him Rovers feel they have a player with the ability and potential to be one of the best no 8’s in the division. Gresley have also signed attacking midfielder James Tague from Belper Town. Tague carries really good experience for his age having previously played at Basford United, Matlock Town and Gainsborough Trinity, extensively at Step 3.
