The Mikes have brought in vastly experienced defender James Mace (pictured) and midfielder Mitch Botfield. Thirty-eight-year-old Mace went on to become one of the biggest success stories of Paul Holleran’s time in charge of Leamington. He signed for the Brakes after spending two seasons in the Conference North with Hinckley United - he was quickly snapped up from the now sadly defunct Leicestershire club after impressing and has been a lynchpin of the Brakes defence ever since. His previous clubs include Rushall Olympic, Coleshill Town, Bedworth United and Atherstone Town. He signed on dual registration with Southern Premier Division Central side Bromsgrove Sporting in August 2021 and then signed similar terms for league rivals Stratford Town in November 2022. His 436 appearances saw him overtake former club favourite Josh Blake in the modern era of Leamington during which time he kept up a goal a season average eventually scoring 13 goals in the club colours. Botfield joins the Mikes from Midland League Premier Division side Darlaston Town. The 29-year-old signed for Darlaston midway through last season from Boldmere’s league rivals Chasetown, where he had been since July 2021. A tenacious central midfielder, he was originally involved in the youth ranks at Walsall before later joining Halesowen Town. In the summer of 2013, he signed for Evesham United whilst studying in Gloucestershire. A year later he linked up with Tividale ahead of their 2014/15 campaign in the Northern Premier League Division One South before he headed to the USA in 2015 for a football scholarship and during his time in the States he played for Lenoir-Rhyne University and Asheville City. Upon returning to England he signed for Alvechurch and he helped the Worcestershire side to win promotion from the NPL Division One South in 2017/18 and then reach the Southern Premier Division Central play-offs the following year. He left for rivals Stourbridge before re-joining Church in the summer of 2020.
