....following his release from National League side Sutton
United.
Linking up with
former team-mate Craig Dundas, Downer’s signing follows the departure of Josh McLeod-Urqhuart,
adding valuable experience to the Beavers back-line.
Downer, 36, began
his career with Leyton Orient, making 80 League appearances, going on to start
for them in the 2001 League Two play-off final at Wembley.
His time at Sutton was
a memorable one, with the defender going on to make over 250 appearances at
Gander Green Lane.
A fan favourite,
Downer even managed to see 85 minutes out in goal in a game against Torquay
United in February 2017 – coming on at 1-0 down and inspiring The U’s to a 3-2
win.
With spells at
Dagenham & Redbridge and Maidenhead United also on his CV, Hampton manager Gary
McCann will be hoping that Downer’s understanding and experience will inspire
and guide the Beavers squad throughout the rest of the season.
Downer will be
available for selection for Saturday’s fixture against Chelmsford City at
Jezzards Beveree Stadium. |
