Sunday`s ties in the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round produced a couple of upsets.
At Sandy Lane, Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Worksop Town knocked out Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One East outfit Carlton Town.
An excellent crowd of 435 saw the visitors take an early 5th minute lead through Ed Clarke.
Kyle Jordan equalised from the penalty spot 12 minutes later and Steve Woolley`s second on the half-hour mark eventually proved enough for the Tigers.
And Southern Counties East League Premier Division Cray Valley PM have made it through to the First Qualifying Round after an impressive 4-1 win at Badger Sports against Bostik League South Central side Ashford Town (Middx).
On a wet and miserable Sunday afternoon the hosts quickly livened things up by scoring just 9 minutes in to the game.
Former Charlton favourite Kevin Lisbie played in Joe N'Guessan who calmly slotted the ball into the corner of the net.
Less than half-an-hour later that lead was doubled. Lisbie again was provider but it was Denzel Gayle on the receiving end this time and he made no mistake with his finishing to make it 2-0.
On the hour-mark Lisbie turned from provider to goalscorer, when he outfoxed the keeper to role the ball home.
That sparked the visitors into life and they quickly pulled one back through Bradley Wilson, 3-1.
With the game approaching the final minutes Lisbie confirmed victory for the Millers with a great strike from the edge of the area.
Cray Valley then held on to the end to record an historic victory against their higher-level opposition.
Bostik North side Romford edged through at East Thurrock against Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division Baldock Town by the odd goal in five.
Kim Forsythe gave the visitors a 13th minute lead that Kurt Smith cancelled out within 6 minutes.
Smith`s penalty then put Boro in front 4 minutes before half-time, only for Liam Kenna to look like he`d earned Baldock a replay with a 62nd minute equaliser.
However, a Roddy Lemba spot-kick in stoppage time ended the visitors' hopes.
The all-Essex Senior League tie between Stansted and Takeley turned on a 15th minute dismissal of home `keeper Charlie Turner after a tackle outside his box deemed reckless on Takeley`s Mitchell Das.
Defender Sam West was forced to spend the remaining 75 minutes in goal and only conceded one to Das, but that proved enough to see the visitors through. |
