This will be an integral role within an exciting new management structure, as the club aims for immediate promotion back to Step 2 in 2018/19.
Harris (pictured) brings with him a wealth of experience. Notable achievements include overseeing the rise of Newport County from Southern League to League Two, progressing to The FA Cup second round proper with three different clubs, and getting to the final of the FA Trophy in 2012.
Other than Newport County, UEFA A Licence holder Harris has occupied the dugout at Forest Green Rovers, Gloucester City on two occasions, and finished last season with Redditch United.
He has overseen promotions from step three with two different clubs and has exceptional knowledge of the level that the club will be competing at next season.
An important part of this new role will be making use of Harris’ vast network of contacts. He has a strong pedigree in player recruitment and development and played a role in moves for QPR and Northern Ireland international Connor Washington (Newport County to Peterborough United), Sheffield United first-team regular Lee Evans (Newport County to Wolverhampton Wanderers), and Luke Thomas who made his EFL Championship debut for Derby County last season, amongst several others.
In the new first-team football management structure, Mike Fowler will be retained as head coach.
Despite a disappointing end to last season, Fowler’s work ethic, passion for the club, and potential are attributes that the club wishes to support and develop further.
Key to the decision was Fowler’s existing working relationship with Harris.
Fowler has worked with Harris extensively over the past fifteen years and has captained three different clubs under his leadership.
The final part of the new first-team football management structure will see former club captain Paul Green return to The Lamb in a player-coach capacity.
Fans` favourite Green needs no introduction, having represented the club on more than 100 occasions.
Green enjoyed a solid season at Step 1 with Solihull Moors in 2017/18 and will have a positive impact at the club both on and off the pitch.
Tamworth has revealed that more new faces put pen-to-paper on deals for next season.
Attacker Tristan Dunkley and utility man Lewis Wright both join on initial one-year agreements.
Dunkley will be familiar to many, having represented several local non-League clubs.
He began his career at Birmingham City Academy, before coming to prominence at Loughborough University. Successful spells, most notably at Worcester City, earned him a move to National League Solihull Moors at the start of last season, before finishing the season with Redditch United.
Wright, predominantly a defender although he can operate further up the field, also finished last season with Redditch.
Prior to that, he is best known for a stint with Hednesford Town. Indeed, the Pitmen turned down several offers for his services from higher level clubs.
Wright spent his formative years in the academy systems of Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, and Walsall, before transitioning into first-team football.
On the duo, Harris told the club`s official website: “Tristan is someone who will excite the fans. He has got pace to burn, he can hurt defenders and he is a talented lad. Lewis has got a great engine, he’s totally committed and good in the air. He is also a winner, which is important.”
Fowler believes the signing of Jas Singh illustrates the Lambs desire to win the Southern Premier next season.
Former Shrewsbury, Kidderminster Harriers, Solihull and AFC Telford United keeper Singh has joined the Lambs and Fowler is hoping the move will rectify the club’s goalkeeping issues.
The Lambs endured a difficult time last season while using loan keepers Shaun Rowley and Jack Stevens, as well as under-21s keeper Dan Jezeph.
It made a new keeper a priority and Fowler is delighted to have snared Singh.
“I sympathised with Jurgen Klopp,” said Fowler. “We might not have played in a Champions League final, but we had some key games last season where goalkeeper mistakes cost us dearly.
“To me, it highlighted how important that position is and it made that a priority for me, Tim Harris and Paul Green. We met a few goalkeepers to get to know them. You can never know too much about their characters.
“But Jas was always the number one target for us and when we started dialogue it was always positive.”
Tamworth has also completed the signing of defender Joel Kettle.
The former Rushall and Solihull centre-half spent the back end of last season on loan at The Lamb.
And, despite the club's relegation, he produced some solid performances at the heart of the Tamworth defence.
Solihull Moors right-back Kristian Green has also switched to The Lamb.
The former Stourbridge defender has a wealth of non-League experience, having also featured for Bilston Town, Gornal Athletic and Halesowen Town.
Re-joining Green at The Lamb is Chris Lait, who has also made the switch from the Automated Technology Group Stadium.
The 24-year-old winger joined Solihull from Stourbridge last summer but spent the majority of the season on the sidelines through injury.
He scored over 20 goals for the Glassboys and was previously a key member of Moors under-19 team back in 2010/11 and broke into the senior squad the following year before being transferred to Stratford Town then onto Banbury United, Halesowen and Rushall.
A frustrating 2017/18 campaign ended with Lait making just seven appearances in the National League, scoring one goal. |
