....Northern Counties East League Division One club Armthorpe Welfare have announced that Alan Jackson has stepped up to replace him as player-coach.
Jackson joined Welfare in mid-October last season, playing his first game in a 4-2 win at Campion, and making 20 appearances during the campaign which yielded five goals.
And now, he will work alongside manager Mick Carmody and assistant boss Ben Chapman in a bid to move the club up the table.
He told the club`s website: "I am delighted to become part of the management team at Armthorpe Welfare Football Club.
"I have known Mick Carmody for nearly 20 years and it is fair to say I was surprised when he contacted me last year to see if I was 'fit' - I thought he knew me better than that! Due to family and work commitments, I had stopped playing Saturday football at any level.
"Mick gave me an opportunity to start playing again and the timing was right. Since that first nervous game away to Campion, I have not looked back and really enjoyed myself at the club."
Jackson continued: "This year, I was asked to be involved with Mick and Chappy. I accepted immediately and without hesitation. The atmosphere around the club is brilliant and there is a great unity with everyone involved.
"Mick, Chappy and I have a realistic but very much achievable plan. The lads are working hard and developing at the same time. I am looking forward to the season ahead and hope I can help take the club forward both on and off the pitch."
Carmody added: "We had a chat over the summer and I'm happy to say Alan agreed to come on board with the management team. We also know he still has lots to offer as a player, too.
"Alan and I have played together most of our playing days so I know how he works and trust his input completely. We have similar ideas and want to develop the club in the same way.
"He's a big influence in our dressing room and all the boys listen and respect what he offers.
"We have a tight group these days and Alan has played a big part in bring the lads together so long may that continue.
"Ben and I felt after losing Steve he'd be the obvious choice so we're both delighted he's agreed and we look forward to working together as a team".
