The right-back has previously worked with new Chester joint-managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson at both Ramsbottom United and Salford City, but a serious injury sustained in a car crash saw Smalley lose his place and leave to join Ashton in 2016/17.

Having had two successful seasons with the Robins he has now made the switch to the Swansway Chester Stadium where he will link-up with Morley and Johnson for the third time.

Johnson told the club`s official website: “Dom was with us at Ramsbottom and Salford but he was in a car crash and he didn’t play for us again due to the injury.

“He got himself back to full fitness and has been playing better than I’ve ever seen him play before.

“You will not find a better right-back in this league than Dom Smalley and he’s a top signing”.
