The upsets and the big hitters!

There were several upsets in Saturday`s Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round.

 

Starting north and moving south, Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West leaders Radcliffe FC ousted NPL Premier Division Stalybridge Celtic at Stainton Park, courtesy of Ben Wharton`s first half header.

 

Goals from Ally Brown and sub Aaron Burns saw Radcliffe`s league rivals Trafford beat Stalybridge`s rivals Lancaster City 2-0 at the Giant Axe.

 

Matty Morgan and Reece Webb-Foster scored the goals that took another NPL Division One West side in Colne through at home at the expense of NPL Premier visitors Hyde United.

 

An 89th minute Jack Foalle header saw Ebac Northern League First Division side Whitley Bay through 1-0 at Hillheads against NPL Premier Division side Whitby Town.

 

On 73 minutes, Whitby`s Dale Hopson had a penalty brilliantly saved by Tom Flynn and moments later Whitby's Jessem Sukar was sent-off for a second yellow card.

 

Another Northern League side to triumph over an NPL Premier side were Dunston UTS, who hammered a North Ferriby United outfit who were plying their trade three divisions higher last season.

 

Liam Brooks` early 3rd minute effort had Dunston in front and then two goals just after the hour-mark from Scott Heslop and a Mark Fitzpatrick penalty killed the tie off.

 

Jamie Forrester pulled one back for Ferriby 11 minutes from time, but Liam Thear added a fourth for the home side 7 minutes later.

 

One of the performances of the day saw Toolstation Northern Counties East Leaguers Knaresborough Town hammer NPL Division One West side Kendal Town 7-3!

 

Nick Black and Josh Garbutt both bagged braces, Rob Worrall, Brad Walker and Greg Anderson singles.

 

Kendal went down to ten-men when Martin Grundy was given a straight red card but it was already 6-2 at the time – the Mintcakes` scorers were Mark Buchan with two and Brad Carroll.

 

Total Motion Midland League Premier Division Romulus – relegated from the NPL at the end of last season – beat NPL Division One East side Belper Town 4-0 at home.

 

Luke Richards was a hat-trick hero for Roms, with Mitch Piggon also on target.

 

Belper`s league rivals Spalding United are also out and helped create a bit of FA Cup history.

 

George Clarke’s 72nd minute goal ensured that Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division Brantham Athletic made history, having never before advanced past the First Qualifying Round stage.

 

Essex Senior League side FC Romania also caused an upset by ousting Bostik League North visitors Soham Town Rangers from the competition 4-0.

 

Sergiu Pitaru was the toast of the hosts, netting a hat-trick in the 7th, 22nd and 45th minutes, with Sergiu Maximov adding the other on 65 minutes.

 

Bostik Premier side Wingate & Finchley were beaten at the Maurice Rebak Stadium by Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South visitors Didcot Town.

 

The Railwaymen led through Brett Gardner`s 25th minute goal and Callum McNish`s 62nd minute second, and although Sean Cronin gave Wingate hope with an 88th minute penalty, they couldn`t find a leveller.

 

Southern League Division One Central side Bedford Town had a surprisingly comfortable 3-0 win at Bostik Premier Enfield Town`s Queen Elizabeth II Stadium.

 

Dan Walker after 14 minutes and then Callum Donnelly on 68 minutes gave Eagles a cushion that Walker`s second 5 minutes from time added to.

 

Bostik South East side Hastings United caused an upset at the Pilot Field by ousting Bostik Premier Kingstonian.

 

Daniel Ajakaiye gave United a 16th minute lead that Manolis Gogonas cancelled out less than 3 minutes later.

 

Sinn`kaye Christie restored Hastings` lead just 2 minutes later and they held on to that.

 

Bostik South Central side Egham Town also caused an upset in their derby tie at the Runnymede Stadium against Bostik Premier visitors Staines Town, thanks to a goal from the well-travelled Kezie Ibe – who numbers Staines amongst his many previous clubs - in the 82nd minute.

 

Apart from upsets, there were several big scorelines.

 

Joining Knaresborough in hitting seven in the cup on Saturday were West Country sides Taunton Town, Swindon Supermarine and Cirencester Town.

 

Southern Premier Division South hosts Taunton hammered Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier visitors Bemerton Heath Harlequins 7-1 at the Viridor Stadium.

 

The managerless Peacocks` goals came from Rocky Neal, Dan Sullivan and Matt Wright all bagged braces and Josh Chamberlain one.

 

Taunton`s league rivals Swindon Supermarine beat Thurlow Nunn Leaguers Woodbridge Town by the same scoreline at the WebbsWood.

 

Josh Parsons netted a hat-trick, Zak Westlake, Ryan Campbell, Stuart Fleetwood and an own goal for `Marine.

 

Southern Division One South side Cirencester inflicted a 7-0 defeat on Wessex One hosts AFC Stoneham.

 

Ben Whitehead with a hat-trick, Tommy Anderson and Alan Griffin with braces for the visitors.

 

No upset at the Don Amott as NPL Premier Division side Mickleover Sports hammered West Midlands (Regional) League Haughmond 6-0 with Nathan Jarman scoring a hat-trick.

 

Isaï Marselia, Curtis Burrows and Jimmy Phillips with the others.

 

Mickleover`s league rivals Nantwich Town, South Shields and Witton Albion all went nap in their ties.

 

The Dabbers saw off Northern Counties East Leaguers Worksop Town 5-2 at the Weaver Stadium with a brace for Aaron Knight and singles from Jamie Lawrie, Callum Saunders and Steve Jones – Connor Brunt and Tom Poole replying.

 

Shields saw off another NCEL outfit, Garforth Town, 5-1 at Mariners Park with Blair Adams netting a hat-trick and Gavin Cogden and Matty Pattison singles – Curtly Martin-Wyatt for Garforth.

 

And Witton also saw off NCEL opposition at home in Bottesford Town, with Mike Wilson and Rob Hopley in the first half and Matty Devine and penalties from James Foley and Will Jones scoring without response.

 

Barwell crashed out of the cup with a 5-2 defeat to NPL Premier rivals Buxton at Kirkby Road.

 

Josh Meade’s shot on 39 minutes was parred into the path of Liam Hardy, who tapped home to give Buxton the lead.

 

With a minute until the interval, Hardy fired home from 10 yards to make it 2-0.

 

In stoppage time, Brady Hickey fired home on the half volley to reduce the deficit.

 

Sub Kade Coppin extended Buxton’s lead just before the hour-mark.

 

Halfway through the second half, Hickey fired home his second of the game to reduce the deficit, only for Diego De Girolamo to cancel it out minutes later.

 

Buxton were well in control at that point and De Girolamo rounded Liam Castle to roll home from a yard out and seal Buxton’s progression to the next round.

 

No upset at the Belmont Ground where Bostik South East new boys Whitstable Town suffered a 5-0 defeat to Bostik Premier side Bognor Regis Town.

 

Jimmy Muitt bagged a first half brace and then Brad Lethbridge, Dan Smith and sub Mason Walsh made it a nap hand for the Rocks.

 

Bostik North hosts Bowers & Pitsea also hit five at the Len Salmon Stadium against Essex Senior League side Takeley.

 

Experienced striker David Knight had a fine personal afternoon, netting four times in the 2nd, 30th from the spot, 39th and 50th minutes – Lewis Manor adding the other 5 minutes before the break – Charlie Cole replying.

 

The all-Hallmark Security League Premier Division tie between Squires Gate and City of Liverpool saw the visitors triumph 5-1 with Craig Cairns netting a hat-trick for the visiting Purps.

 

Luke Denson and a John McGrath penalty wrapped it up with Dean Ing scoring a consolation for Gate.

 

The all-NPL Division One West tie saw hosts Clitheroe beaten 5-2 by Mossley AFC.

 

Ben Halfacre and Max Leonard bagged braces for the Lilywhites.

 

Southern Counties East League Premier Division Erith Town inflicted a 5-1 defeat on Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League Premier Division hosts Spelthorne Sports.

 

Alex Nelson with two, Jack Duffy, Adrian Stone and Jason Goodchild for Town.
