A goal on the hour-mark from Paul Shanley was enough to hoist the Hallmark Security League promotees to joint top.

Prescot Cables, who were beaten on the opening day, made it three wins from five games with a best-of-five success at the Lyme Valley Stadium against Newcastle Town.

Cables took an 11th minute lead through Morgan Homson-Smith.

Homson-Smith then doubled his and Cables` tally before Chris Almond made it 3-0 from the penalty spot, with Taylor Attrell pulling one back – all before half-time.

Josh Glover `won` the second half for Castle with a 70th minute second, but they weren`t able to find a leveller.

The day`s other game saw Skelmersdale United pick up their first point of the season at Surrey Street against a Glossop North End outfit who were also looking for their first win, having picked up just one point to date.

Almost inevitably it finished 0-0.
