....club Sheffield FC, Matt Roney had a testimonial game against his boyhood team Sheffield United last Tuesday (4th September).

It was packed out at the Coach & Horses as Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder brought a strong Sheffield United side, keeping a promise made to life-long Blades’ fan Roney.

There were many who headed to Dronfield with the promise of a first appearance after long-term injury of Paul Coutts, and they weren’t to be disappointed, as he played 60 minutes along with the likes of Billy Sharp, Mark Duffy and new loanee Marvin Johnson.

United raced into a 5-1 half-time lead, as Johnson scored with his virtual first touch as a Blades’ player, with Jordan Doherty making it 2-0 as he headed in Johnson's cross.

Roney`s side pulled one back when Simon Moore made a hash of punching a corner and James Gregory turned in, the third came when Doherty put a cross in that was turned in by James Kay for an own goal.

Duffy scored a smart goal to make it 4-1 and then Sharp set him up with a run though and unselfish lay off for a tap-in goal for Duffy to make it 5-1.

After the break, United made it six through David McGoldrick, and after guest keeper Matt Duke made two or three stunning saves, before Derek Geary, Rob Kozluk and Michael Brown came on, making guest appearances against the Blades before Jordan Hallam scored a well-taken goal to make it 7-1.

Wednesdayite Michael Vaughan, the former England cricket captain, came on for Club to boos from the United faithful, before Hallam scored another goal and then three more quick goals at point blank range from McGoldrick saw him complete his hat-trick and then his fourth and make it 11-1.

Vaughan played pantomime villain to the full in the last minute, falling dramatically in the box from a challenge from Richard Stearman, on came man of the moment Roney to send ex-Clubbie Jake Eastwood the wrong way to finish 11-2.

"It's been brilliant," Roney told http://www.sheffieldfc.com: "I just want to thank everyone who has been a part of it and also everyone connected with Sheffield United for agreeing to come and putting the side out that they did".
