McGurk signed for Aston Villa in 2004 making seven appearances for the reserves and scoring 4 goals before suffering a serious knee injury that briefly derailed his career.

After being released by Villa he joined Hednesford Town before earning a contract at Tranmere Rovers.

He went on to score his first goal for Tranmere against AFC Bournemouth - a 94th minute winner.

After suffering a collapsed lung, McGurk left Tranmere and signed for Burton Albion.

He made his debut in a League Cup tie against Sheffield United, setting up the first goal in a 2–1 win.

McGurk scored the winning goal in Burton's 1–0 win over Premier League QPR in August 2014.

The former Northern Ireland Youth international later signed with Portsmouth, scoring on his debut against Derby County in the Capital One Cup.

A spell with Cambridge United followed before spending last season with Morecambe.

McGurk has under-16 and under-17 caps and has also represented Northern Ireland at under-21 level, making his debut in August 2009 against Portugal.

He was called up to the senior squad in early 2013 for pre-World Cup qualifying friendly matches but has yet to make his debut.

He will go straight in to Nicky Eaden’s squad for the trip to Spennymoor Town tomorrow.
