Ebac Northern League First Division club Bishop Auckland’s Wembley dreams are still intact in the Buildbase FA Vase – but only just after going to extra-time against West Allotment Celtic.

After hitting peak for in the league the previous week when they thumped Seaham, Bishops made hard work of disposing of Allotment, from a division below them.

Bishop Auckland manager Ian Chandler said; “The banana was half eaten today. We were terrible for ninety minutes. Sometimes three or four players have off days, on Saturday it was nine or ten. We had brief good spells and the introduction of Chris Winn made the difference. West were, as expected, a tough opponent.”

Bishops hit the bar through Kieran Galbraith early on, and then took the lead on 11 minutes through a Callum Patton penalty after Kyle Fryatt was fouled. Fryatt nearly added a quick second, but his shot was cleared off the line.

But Allotment got back into the game with a long-range strike by Dean Walker four minutes after half time, and after that the game could have gone either way.

Chris Winn, who had come on as sub near the end of the 90 minutes took command in extra-time.

He fired in off the underside of the bar to put Bishops in front in the second period, and then cleverly turned home a Fryatt cross while lying on the ground for the third.

Brandon United won their first game of any sort this season when they beat Second Division rivals Washington 3-2 at the Welfare Ground to join Bishops in the next round.

Brandon were ahead twice in normal time through Joe Joyce and Niall Fingleton, but Washington pegged them back through Kris Goss and David Smith.

But Brandon squeezed through, thanks to a goal by the appropriately-named Brandon Turnbull in extra-time.

Another Second Division outfit Crook Town’s hopes of a good run were dashed when they were beaten 6-2 at First Division Ashington, but they gave the Colliers a fright in the first half.

Nathan Stephenson put them in the lead early on, and after Ashington went 2-1 up, Andrew Lonsdale pulled them level before half-time.

But Ashington powered away in the second half.

Northallerton Town lost 2-1 at home to Steeton from the Hallmark Security League.

The visitors scored twice in the space of 5 minutes in the first half, and even though Richie Walker replied before half-time, Steeton held on until the end.

Tow Law Town had a bad day at another NWCL outfit, Nelson, going down 5-2, conceding all the goals in the first half.

To make matters worse, they also had Matthew Fisher sent-off.

Lewis Martin and Callum Oldfield scored for them in the second half.

Manager Steve Murray said; “It was a dreadful first half, I can’t remember such a poor half. It was game over, down to ten men and only pride to play for by half time.”

In the other games, Redcar Athletic’s first ever Vase game saw them lost 2-0 at Second Division rivals Bedlington Terriers.

One of the fancied ENL clubs, Consett, were beaten 1-0 at Bridlington Town from the Toolstation Northern Counties East League.

Whickham knocked out four times winner Whitley Bay by 2-1 at the Glebe with an extra-time winner, but another former winner, Dunston UTS, are through after winning 2-0 at Ryhope CW.

Seaham Red Star had a good 2-0 away win at NWCL Daisy Hill, while Guisborough Town scored three times in the first 20 minutes to set up a 4-2 home win over another NWCL outfit, Barnoldswick Town. Nathan Steel scored a hat-trick.

Billingham Town beat fellow Second Division side Birtley Town 3-1 at Bedford Terrace, while Ryton & Crawcrook Albion lost 2-1 at home to NCEL side Garforth Town.

It was one of the best day’s the South West Peninsula League have ever had in the Vase with ten Premier sides being through to the First Round in October.

Five sides beat Toolstation Western League opposition, three beat Division One East or West sides and two went or will go through in all-Premier ties with just one side falling to a non-SWP Premier club.

Three sides beat Step 5 opposition as Newquay won 1-0 away at former members Buckland Athletic with a late penalty at Homers Heath.

Exmouth Town and Falmouth Town both beat former Southern League clubs with Exmouth beating Bridgwater Town 3-0 at Southern Road and Falmouth coming from behind to beat Clevedon Town at Bickland Park.

Two sides had away wins at Western League Division One outfits with Elburton Villa having 4-0 success at Bishop Lydeard and St Austell winning 3-2 at Wells City.

Ivybridge Town won 4-0 at Cullompton Rangers in an all-Premier tie and in the other such tie, Bodmin Town will host Camelford at Priory Park on Wednesday night in a replay after a 3-3 draw at Camelford.

Tavistock were made to work very hard for a 2-1 win away at East side Bovey Tracey with extra-time required at Mill Marsh Park, whilst Saltash United had a 6-0 win at home to East side Axminster Town and Torpoint Athletic had a 6-3 win at West side Porthleven.

The only side to be humbled were Godolphin Atlantic, who lost 4-1 away at East Division side Sidmouth Town.

Vase ties involving Uhlsport Hellenic League clubs started on Friday night with two league teams facing each other, Longlevens and Tuffley Rovers.

The Gloucestershire neighbours were well-matched with neither team scoring a goal.

The replay will take place at Glevum Park on Tuesday.

Three other all-Hellenic ties took place on Saturday. Division One West Cheltenham Saracens lost 1-0 to Premier Division Flackwell Heath at Petersfield Park, courtesy of a Sodike Anyadike-Thompson strike.

Easington Sports suffered the same result as their last FA Cup venture, conceding in added time to Brimscombe & Thrupp at Addison Road after Josh Rose had put them in front. Jack Smith and then Harrison Reeves won it for the visitors.

Division One West Malmesbury Victoria secured a 3-1 home win against Premier Divison Virginia Water at the Flying Monk Ground.

Shane Bumphrey bagged a brace for Vics.

Competing against Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) teams, Abingdon United go through to the next round with a 3-0 home win against Alton Town at Northcourt Road with Nathan Baker, Pat Beckford and Milo Mugatroyd the scorers.

AFC Stoneham won 3-2 against Binfield at The Elliotts Arena, while Baffins Milton Rovers put FOURTEEN goals past One West New College Swindon, who managed one, at the Kendall Stadium

Royal Wootton Bassett Town were hammered 4-0 at home by Bashley, for whom both Tony Rolls and Cameron Beard doubled up.

Toolstation Western League Bitton recorded a 3-1 win over Bishops Cleeve, while a Geriant Williams strike 2 minutes from time at Sherborne Town took Almondsbury through to the next round.

A goal in each half by Fabian Driffill was enough to take Holyport through 2-1 against Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League side Fleet Spurs at Summerleaze Village.

In the Shrivenham versus Badshot Lea contest at Barrington Park, it was an even game for the most part, Combined Counties Badshot Lea quicker to react and counterattack, quick on the break, hence the score line of 4-1 with Josh Morse for the home side and Jack Hay, Darren Blake and a Conor Blanchard brace for Badshot.

Brackley Town Saints lost 1-0 to Spartan South Midlands Leaguers Crawley Green      at St James`s Park. Mark Bunker scored for the away side on 34 minutes.

Clanfield (85) lost 5-2 to another SSML side in Buckingham Athletic at Radcot Road, with Jordon Appleton bagging a brace for the home side inside the opening 5 minutes.

United Counties League Premier side Wellingborough Town were 3-2 victors against Burnham at the Dog & Duck.

Troy Johnston gave the Doughboys the lead which Ash James levelled.

Sub Lloyd Buckby restored the home side`s lead but again Burnham fought back through James Tripp, only for another sub, Adam Speight, to head the home side`s winner a minute from time.

It was a stunning day in the Vase for Southern Counties East League sides as they had ten winners from the fourteen games with another possible win to come via a replay on Wednesday night.

Of the three teams defeated, two took their opposition to extra-time and SC Thamesmead only lost by the one goal against higher level and undefeated Banstead Athletic.

Erith Town continued their superb cup form by getting a victory at AC London.

There was an early scare as The Dockers went 2-0 down early but goals from Stone, Duffy and Campbell-Palmer ensured that it will be Erith taking their place in the First Round.

AFC Croydon produced a stunning comeback to make their way past Lingfield at the Mayfield.

Two-down at half-time, the Rams had levelled by 90 minutes and in extra-time stunned their guests by scoring another three times.

Two second half goals saw Canterbury City hand AFC Varndeanians their first defeat of the season.

Adam Woollcott and Jordan Casey on the scoresheet for Canterbury.

Paul Vines claimed a brace as Chatham Town were comfortable 5-1 winners at home to Camberley Town.

The Combined Counties side were no match for the Chats who now progress to the next stage.

In an all-SCEFL tie a much-changed Glebe side were no match for cup specialists Corinthian, who ran out 3-0 winners.

Rusthall gave Guildford City their first home defeat of the season to move on to Monday's draw for the First Round.

Joe Fuller and Callum Ridley found the net for the Rustics.

Bearsted were also 2-0 winners when upsetting Southern Combination side Selsey on their own turf.

David Baranowski and Peter Williams got the early goals for the Bears.

Steve O'Brien hit a brace as Deal Town won the all-SCEFL tie with K Sports 4-1.

Forest Hill Park took high-flying Combined Counties Premier side Redhill the full 120 minutes away from home.

Tim Beckford scored a first half equaliser to send Hill towards the extra period where the hosts got the goal that put them through.

SC Thamesmead are also out of the competition but can hold their heads up high for their performance against Combined Counties side Banstead.

The visitors are unbeaten and in second place in their Step 5 division but found it tough going at the Bayliss.

Nevertheless, they found their way through thanks to a 24th minute goal from Joe Cheeseman.

Sheppey United came from behind to see off Seaford Town 5-3 at Holm Park.

Rob Denness and Dan Bradshaw both scored twice with Ian Batten getting the other as the Southern Combination side found the going a bit too tough on the island.

Lordswood cruised into the hat when smashing Another SCL side, St Francis Rangers, for six away from home.

Ricky Gundry and Caine Smith continued their fine goalscoring form by both claiming a brace with Jack Mahon and Michael Freiter also finding the net.

Punjab United were the unluckiest side of the day when going out of the competition via a penalty shoot-out at another SCL outfit, Steyning Town.

Adam Cuthbert had scored an equaliser at the start of the second half and with no further scoring we went to spot kicks with Punjab finally being defeated 9-8.

Tunbridge Wells and Bridon Ropes will do it all again on Wednesday night after finishing level after 120 minutes at the Culverden.

Danny Powell had given the hosts the lead on 35 minutes before Nathan Simpson equalised shortly afterwards.

There were mixed fortunes for East Midlands Counties League clubs with only four of the ten through to grace the First Round Proper.

The best win of the day, on paper at least, seems to be Barrow Town’s defeat of Toolstation Northern Counties East League side Shirebrook Town by 4-1.

Zak Ginvert led the way with a hat-trick and James Parker completing the scoring in stoppage time at the end of the game.

In the all-East Midlands Counties League tie, Eastwood Community looked to be heading comfortably into the next stage after goals from Kieran Knight on 5 minutes, Joe Butler on 29 and Kaylum Mitchell 5 minutes before the break put them well in command against unbeaten league leaders Sherwood Colliery.

And the score stayed like that until Gareth Curtis pulled one back for the visitors with 5 minutes left.

Shaun Smith got another in the 89th minute but Eastwood held on to lower the Colliery’s colours for the first time this season.

A missed penalty on the half-hour mark did not help Graham Street Prims’ cause and they eventually went down 2-0 to Total Motion Midland League title favourites Ilkeston Town.

There was better news for Heanor Town, who followed up their midweek win at West Bridgford with a 3-2 success over Midland League Dunkirk in an exciting game at the Town Ground.

Morgan Holloway put the Lions ahead on 18 minutes but the Boatmen restored parity soon after. Josh Craddock put Heanor back in front 10 minutes into the second half only for Dunkirk to level again as the game went into the final stages.

But Jamie Sleigh’s penalty 3 minutes into stoppage time sent the Lions through.

Selston had another impressive win 3-1 at Midland League South Normanton Athletic.

The Shiners went in front of 21 minutes, but Ben Moore levelled before the break and second half goals from Carl Moore and Scott Taylor took Selston through.

Ingles reprieve into the competition lasted less than three days and they went out 2-0 to United Counties League title-favourites Rugby Town, whilst a Jermaine Palmer goal was not enough to see Kimberley Miners Welfare through and they went down by the odd goal of three at Aylestone Park.

Arnold Town lost 5-0 at home to Loughborough University and Ashby Ivanhoe went down by the only goal of the game to Bewdley Town.

The Vase games on Saturday across all three divisions of the Hallmark Security League provided an interesting bill of fare at the weekend.

Nine ties saw two of our clubs paired against one another, and the final outcome was four home wins, three away wins and two draws that will mean midweek replays.

Two first half goals from Jacob Salisbury took Garstang to a 2-1 win at AFC Darwen, and there were four different scorers on the scoresheet for Sandbach United in their 4-0 win at Atherton LR, and likewise for Litherland REMYCA in their 4-1 win at Bacup Borough.

Irlam won the day in the only all-Premier Division clash at home to Burscough, two goals from Marcus Perry helping them to a 4-2 victory in Division One North versus South clashes.

Ryan Burke's late winner clinched Cammell Laird 1907's 2-1 win over Shelley, Mick Douglas was on target for Lower Breck in the 1-0 win over Stockport Town, and Sam Rathbone, Louis Potts and Philip Armstrong scored for Avro in their 3-0 win over Barnton.

Two goals from Vauxhall Motors' Ben Holmes were cancelled out by two from Cheadle Town's Rhys Webb and with extra-time failing to separate the sides after a 2-2 draw, they will replay on Tuesday evening in Ellesmere Port.

There was the same outcome at Padiham where an equaliser from Liam O'Neill tied the Storks at 2-2 with Prestwich Heys, and their replay at Adie Moran Park will also be on Tuesday evening.

Five NWCL clubs knocked opponents from other leagues, three of them away from home.

After Josh Bristow put them ahead on 20 minutes, goals in the last 15 minutes from Thomas Ashton, Jonathan Sheldon and Kieron Ball took Hanley Town to a 4-0 win at Dudley Sports, and goals in the opening 18 minutes from Steeton's James Grogan and Ben Clarkson set them on the way to a 2-1 win at Northallerton Town.

Charnock Richard's Oliver Oxley scored twice in the 4-1 win at Penrith, although the victory celebrations were delayed as the team coach broke down on the way home.

Winsford United and Nelson both enjoyed good home wins, with a hat trick from Peter Watling the highlight of Winsford United's 5-0 win over Worksop Town and a hat-trick from Nelson's Gareth Hill in the opening 23 minutes was added to by two goals from James Wolfenden before half-time, in the Admirals' 5-2 win against Tow Law Town.

It was, however, the end of the road for nine of our clubs against opponents from other leagues, although Whitchurch Alport came agonisingly close to earning a replay against Shepshed Dynamo, but the visitors snatched a winner in stoppage time of extra time to win 3-2.

There were also home defeats for Bootle (1-0 against Hallam) and Daisy Hill (2-0 against Seaham Red Star), and Stone Old Alleynians' 7-3 home defeat at the hands of Sporting Khalsa was notable for the fact their three goals arrived from the 88th minute onwards.

Five teams headed for home from unfamiliar territory knowing that their interest in the competition was over for another year

Carlisle City did open the scoring through Aaron Bradbury bit eventually lost 5-2 at Thackley, and Barnoldswick Town restored some respectability with two late goals in the 4-2 defeat at Guisborough Town.

A Ben Davison goal had Maine Road on level terms for 25 minutes although they eventually lost 4-1 at Staveley Miners Welfare, and AFC Blackpool lost by the same score at Swallownest.

A long trip over to Lincolnshire proved to be a fruitless one for Ashton Town, who lost 4-0 at Barton Town.

Despite Toolstation Western League side Bitton seeing their defence breached for the first time this season, they progressed to the next round of the Vase following a 3-1 win at home to league rivals Bishops Cleeve.

Josh Egan kept up his good form in front of goal for the Gloucestershire side, with summer signing Mario Mateus and Ben Harris also getting on the scoresheet for the victorious hosts.

Bitton will be joined in the next round by Cheddar after the Cheesemen defeated Newton Abbot Spurs 2-0, thanks to goals from Adam Wright and Stephen Pennington.

Roman Glass St George also booked their spot in the next round, after goals from Nathan Legge, Ibrahim Sarr and Tyler Davis led them to a 3-0 win over Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) side Bemerton Heath Harlequins.

Sam Clarke and Leighton Thomas each score twice during Bridport’s 5-0 defeat of Warminster, while at the Southfields Rec, goals from Ryan Lane, Connor McAuley and Mike Smith secured a 3-1 win for Plymouth Parkway away at Radstock Town.

In another all-Western League tie, Premier Division side Odd Down required goals from Ash McGrane and Anthony Conradi to come from behind to defeat First Division outfit Welton Rovers 2-1.

After beating the same opposition 9-0 during the week in a different cup competition, Charlie Aldom’s double helped cap Cribbs’ 5-1 victory away at Shortwood United.

There was late cup heartbreak for both Sherborne and Buckland Athletic who each conceded late penalties during their 1-0 losses at the hands of Almondsbury and Newquay, respectively.
