Former caretaker boss Matt Easton has been appointed as manager of Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One East club Spalding United on a permanent basis.

A long-time student of the game, former England under-16s coach Easton has been elevated to the Tulips post after taking over from former incumbent, Chris Rawlinson, who left by mutual consent following the 1-0 defeat to Brantham Athletic in the Emirates FA Cup on 8th September and who has now re-joined another former Tulips' boss, Dave Frecklngton, as coach at NPL Premier Division Matlock Town.

A highly credible and entertaining 2-2 draw in Easton`s first game in temporary charge at Loughborough Dynamo was followed by a similar result but fewer goals (0-0) at home to Pickering Town on 15th September and a narrow penalty shoot-out defeat (4-2 after a 1-1 draw) to visiting Belper Town last Tuesday night.

The Board of Directors were not short of credible applications for the long-term manager's role but they felt that Easton had earned his chance, had full respect and command of the changing room and was very much his own man in terms of developing an entertaining style of play which supporters want to see.
