Brierley, 20, an attacking midfielder who rose through the ranks in SkyBet Championship side Stoke City’s academy, has played for Glossop North End, Northwich Victoria and Buxton this season, and will add more attacking options from midfield.

As well strengthening in the midfield area, Cole Lonsdale, a 19-year-old left-back, who previously played for Bolton Wanderers, also comes in to provide more options at the back.

Lonsdale played a key role in Bolton's under-23 title-winning success last season and completed a third-year scholarship at Macron Stadium but was not retained on a professional contract when his existing deal came to a close at the end of June.

On his latest signings, interim manager David Chadwick told http://www.fc-utd.co.uk: “I’m pleased to welcome both lads to the squad. We have two young players who again will bring more balance to the team and bring competition for places.

“They’ve both been training with us for the last few weeks and have done well. I am looking forward to seeing them in action”.
