Rooney, 21, stands at 62 and is mainly deployed as a centre-back.

Having started his career with Irish side St Patricks Athletic, he made the move to fellow League of Ireland Premier Division side Bohemians.

Following a short stay with the Bohs, Rooney made the move to England in 2016, signing for Millwall.

During his time with the Lions, he enjoyed a loan spell at then-National League outfit Torquay United, where he made a total of 7 appearances in all competitions, scoring once.

After his time with Millwall came to an end, Rooney was snapped up by Colchester, where he has spent the past season.

Rooney is available for selection for tomorrow’s visit of FC Halifax Town.
