...they were beaten 2-1 at home by Hebburn Town in their top of the table clash in the Ebac Northern League First Division on Saturday.

West have missed some good chances lately to take the outright lead at the top, and despite being the better side on Saturday, they were beaten by a stoppage time winner.

“I never knew Dick Turpin came from Hebburn!” said Forrest.

“That said, it is getting very tiring saying the same things every Saturday night about having the desire and hunger to play for 90 minutes and not just when it suits us. In the two final thirds we have been poor recently and at the moment there a question marks against quite a few in this squad, do they really want to be winners or are they content just taking part.

“By 4-45 next Saturday I will know who is in and who is out, that will be repeated each week until we have a changing room of players with the same objectives as the management team.”

Hebburn took the lead after 8 minutes when Michael Richardson set up Paul Chow to volley home from a few yards out, but after Dan Parker had a header cleared off the Hebburn line, Denver Morris equalised with a 20 yarder into the top corner after a corner was cleared out to him.

In the second half, West’s Amar Purewal went close twice before Graeme Armstrong fired home in the last-minute and kept Hebburn on top of the league.

Bishop Auckland leapfrogged over West into third place thanks to a comfortable 4-1 away win at Whitley Bay, who used three keepers in the first half.

Bishop Auckland manager Ian Chandler said; “It was a good display after our poor showing against Benfield. We played some nice football but lost our way a little way after half time, but steadied things then took over. It could have been five or six, we’re very happy with the three points.”

Tom Flynn started the game in goal for Whitley, and he had no chance with the opening goal of the game, on six minutes when Kyle Fryatt beat him.

Flynn went off with a groin injury, and was replaced by sub keeper Liam Powell, who only lasted a few minutes before going off with a foot injury.

Winger Luke Salmon then went in goal, and he pulled off a couple of good saves before his side equalised with a Jack Foalle effort in the second half.

But Bishops went back in front through Shaun Ryder off a Michael Hoganson cross, then sub Andy Johnson ran through and slotted the ball home. Johnson scored his second of the game from a Callum Patton assist.

Shildon bounced back from a bad week by winning 2-0 at Sunderland RCA, and are joint top now with Hebburn, but have played three games more.

They hit the woodwork twice in the first half before player-manager Danny Moore put them in the lead, then Matty Robson got the second from the spot.

Moore said; “We went back to basics and it wasn't pretty, but it worked for us. We earned the three points by sheer desire and willingness to work for each other.”

In the other games, Consett lost their 100 per cent record when they lost 2-1 at Dunston UTS, who are still unbeaten and are now fourth.

Whickham won their first game of the season by 4-0 against fellow strugglers Penrith, while Stockton won their local derby at Guisborough by 3-1. Newcastle Benfield and Ashington drew 1-1.

In the Second Division, Chester-le-Street drew their top of the table clash against Thornaby by 0-0.

Thornaby had the better of the play, but Chester hit the bar right at the end.

Chester-le-Street manager Colin Wake said; “We’re thankful for the point as we never really got going against a very direct mobile Thornaby side. We had several half chances and a header deep into stoppage time that could have pinched the points but again we didn't do enough in the game to take a foot hold. I felt we were always hanging on, so to come away with a point after such a poor offensive performance is pleasing.”

Northallerton Town bounced back to form, beating Crook Town 3-0 at Ainderby Road to go seventh.

They took the lead midway through the second half when a defender’s clearance rebounded off Nicky Martin into the net, then Chris Emms and Kerry Hedley added further goals. Crook had defender Richie Gaston sent off just before half time.

Northallerton manager Darren Trotter said; “We were really pleased with the result. Crook made it difficult, however after the last couple of results it was good to get a win and once we scored our first it seemed to settle us down and hopefully confidence has returned.”

Crook manager Jamie Tunstall said; “I thought in the first half we were the better side, but the sending off changed the game, one we can’t have any complaints about. Nine players unavailable meant our bench was limited and the boys worked their socks off but tired. Once Northallerton scored they controlled the game and we couldn’t get a foothold.”

Second-bottom Durham City must have wondered what had hit them, after trailing 7-0 against unbeaten Billingham Town before losing 8-4. Billingham striker Craig Hutchinson scored five of the seven in the first half.

Durham manager Wayne Gredziak said; “It was a tale of two halves. The first half performance was utterly embarrassing, and I want to apologise to our fans that they had to watch that schoolboy performance 7-0 down at half time is totally unacceptable. However, our second half performance was unreal, and we proved with a little bit of belief that we are capable of getting out of our current position. We made the second half exciting.”

Jamie Davis scored the other two for Town in the first half, and after Gredziak, Harry Spence, Morghan Claydon and Jamie-Lee Hayman pulled four back at the start of the second half, Joe Hillerby added number eight for Town, who are now two points behind the top two.

Willington were held to a 3-3 draw at bottom club Brandon United, who were collecting only their third point of the season.

Sam Joyce, Joe Joyce and Jack Carr scored for Brandon, with Dean Thexton, Mattie Moffat and Bradley Burns on target for Willington.

Willington manager Rob Lee said; “It was a disappointing performance, we only played in two 20-minute spells. Three goals should win any game, the draw felt like a defeat.”

Tow Law Town lost 2-0 at West Allotment Celtic and remain in the bottom five. Both of Allotment’s goals were scored by Michael Baxter.

Manager Steve Murray said; “It was a poor display, there are no excuses.”

Esh Winning lost 2-0 at home to Heaton Stannington, who scored through Lewis Burns and Richie Hoggins.

In the other games, Billingham Synthonia pulled off a good 1-1 draw at fourth-placed Jarrow, while Birtley Town are now fifth thanks to a 1-0 local derby win over Washington.

Redcar Athletic are now unbeaten in seven league games after they beat Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 3-1, while Bedlington Terriers beat Easington Colliery 3-1.
