Vanarama National League South club Southport have signed Liam Edwards on loan from SkyBet Championship side Bolton Wanderers until the start of January 2019.

Following Marcus Wood who signed for the Port a few weeks ago, Edwards is a centre-back, who is also the Trotters` under-23 captain.

Born in Crewe, he joined Bolton in July 2017, signing a professional contract in June 2018, whilst making appearances in the Premier League 2 format as well as EFL Trophy.

The defender, who can also play on the right, spent time in the youth teams at Stoke City before making the move to Bolton.

Southport manager Liam Watson told https://southportfc.net: "He’s exactly the type of player we need after the knocks to Ryan and Josh in recent games. Liam is confident on the ball, can play out from the back and has leadership qualities that means he will settle in really well with the squad we currently have."

The 22-year-old is available to play in the Emirates FA Cup and will also travel with the squad to Kidderminster Harriers tomorrow.
