An
even opening period was interrupted 2 minutes before half-time when Salford
took the lead when defender Carl Piergianni outmuscled three Spitfires defenders
to head past Luke Southwood.
However,
the visitors almost went into the break on level terms only for Alex Wynter`s
half-volley to bounce back off the crossbar with Chris Neal beaten.
But
12 minutes into the second half, Eastleigh did pull level when Paul McCallum`s
far post header from a corner looped past Neal.
Both
sides had their chances to win it in normal time but even extra-time failed to
find another goal Manny Dieseruvwe hitting the post for the Ammies and
McCallum finding Neal too big an obstacle on more than one occasion.
So
it was to be settled by spot-kicks, and Salford kept their nerve and had Neal
to thank to triumph 4-3 and will now meet AFC Fylde next Saturday in the
Vanarama National League Promotion Final. |
