He
will be joined by Adam Valente as assistant-manager and Mark Birch as goalkeeping
coach.
Spink
played non-League football for a few years with the likes of Worksop Town,
Maltby Main, Staveley Miners Welfare and Frickley.
He
moved into management a couple of years ago working with Worksop`s under-19’s, then
with Worksop`s first-team then more recently with Frickley alongside Spencer
Fearn until taking the post at Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division
One strugglers Harworth Colliery, who were well adrift at the foot of the table
at the time, in February.
Spink
told the club`s website: “I’m absolutely delighted to accept the manager`s job
at Frickley.
“After
speaking with Spencer Fearn and the re-structure of the club, the direction
they want to move in and the plans it’s a very exciting place to be.
“Firstly,
I’d like to thank Jonny Wilson at Harworth Colliery who, as a chairman and a
man, is right up there. He works tirelessly day in day out and with the staff
and volunteers the set-up, it’s run exactly how a non-League club should be.
The fans and the community have been different class and took me in as one of
their own, to average over 200 fans every week at that level is brilliant and
definitely won’t forget the characters I met along the way.
“Jonny
gave me an opportunity to get back in the game and he was the first to tell me
I’d be mad if I didn’t take up the new role, I can’t thank him enough.
“Having
had discussions with close friends and family this is definitely right where I
want to be. Feels like a bit of unfinished business, I made a lot of friends at
Frickley first time around and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into
this new challenge.
“The
work that Ryan McKnight and Spencer are doing behind the scenes is unbelievable
and the new regime we hope to take it to the next level.
“I’ve
assembled a team around me who I completely trust in Adam and Mark both are
football people, very ambitious and we’ve already sat down over the past 48
hours, had discussions on how we are going to work.
“The
pre-season schedule is already planned, and we can`t wait to get going”
Fearn
added: “Craig was an important part of the backroom team in the successful side
last season and also played several games earlier this season.
“Craig
was the only person that I spoke to about the role. He is someone I know well,
have the upmost respect for and is an excellent coach. His philosophy on how a
club should be run and how football should be played links perfectly to the
clubs.
“He
has cut his teeth in management taking on a huge challenge at Harworth to save
them from relegation and almost pulled it off. During this time, he developed
an exciting style of football, which was great to watch. We also welcome Adam
and Mark to the team who will bring knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to the
club”.
