The 43-year-old from Peterborough left the Fenmen’s United Counties League Premier Division neighbours Holbeach United in January and has agreed to be Gary Setchell’s replacement at the Elgoods Fenland Stadium.

Speaking to https://www.wisbechtownfc.co.uk, Hayes said: “I’m extremely happy to have the opportunity to manage a club the size of Wisbech Town.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of managing at Step 4 and can’t wait to get started.”

In his two years at Holbeach he won the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy and finished above the Fenmen in fourth place.

He had perhaps his most successful job to date when guiding Huntingdon Town to the UCL runners-up spot and Hinchingbrooke Cup success in 2014.

He also won the Hinchingbrooke Cup when jointly in charge of Peterborough Northern Star in 2015.

Hayes has wasted no time in appointing his backroom team, bringing in Kevin Ward and Scott Goodwin as joint/assistant-managers. Both were at Holbeach`s league rivals Oadby Town last season.

Ward returns to the Fenmen, having been a coach under Setchell, while Goodwin played for the likes of Coventry City, Hereford United, Hednesford Town, Tamworth and Kettering Town, and has managed the likes of Long Buckby, Rothwell Corinthians and Gresley FC.
