The
experienced pair informed manager Andy Clarkson of their decision to play
football at a higher level earlier and will both link up at Bamber Bridge in
the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division, jumping up two leagues.
Sumner
joined Gate from Lancaster City at the start of the 2018/19 season after
falling out of love with the game.
The
experienced left-back started nearly every game for Gate in defence.
His
ability to get forward and support attacks was vital, especially when Clarkson
changed formation. He contributed several assists from getting forward and from
his set-pieces and scored his only goal at home against Ashton Athletic in a
6-2 win.
Booth
joined Gate from neighbours Blackpool Wren Rovers after Clarkson finally got
his man after half a season of trying.
The
experienced midfielder was immediately appointed captain in a good move by
Clarkson. His experience at a higher level was clear to see as he set the
standards amongst the group.
Booth
scored 3 goals for the club including that memorable free-kick to seal the
points away at West Didsbury & Chorlton in the Emirates FA Cup.
Later
in the season Booth was appointed player/assistant-manager and was instrumental
in Gate’s change of formation and turn around in form in the second half of the
season.
Clarkson
told http://www.squiresgatefc.co.uk: “Whilst it’s very disappointing to lose
two of my key players, I understand the reason for both leaving. Both for me
are Northern Premier players at a minimum. Both lads have really helped us in
several ways this season and I’d like to think we’ve helped them fall back in
love with the game. It’s testament really to how well we did last season that
clubs two leagues above us are coming in for our players". |
